From the early 20th century to the post-war years, women shaped rebetiko with fearless, raw, and uncompromising voices. This concert traces songs by legendary female singers - such as Marika Papagika, Rita Abatzi, Angela Papazoglou, Marika Ninou, Ioanna Georgakopoulou, Mary Linda, and Sotiria Bellou - while also exploring the rebel woman as portrayed in rebetiko, even in songs sung by men. Moving between tenderness and defiance, Elsa Mouratidou & Taxim Trio bring these untamed voices to life, revealing the woman of rebetiko not as a muse, but as a force - singing her truth against the grain of her time.
