Join Sydney school teacher and local historian Vasilis Vasilas for the exhibition The Last of Little Greece: Marrickville, where fifteen intimate portraits and personal stories capture the enduring bond between the Greek migrant generation and Marrickville’s historic “Little Greece”.
As the post–World War II migrant generation inevitably passes, members of Marrickville’s Greek community reflect on why they settled in the suburb during the 1960s and 1970s, what daily life and local Greek presence were like at the time, how Marrickville has changed over the decades, and why they chose to stay. Through memory, image, and voice, the exhibition explores what Marrickville - and Little Greece - still means to them after a lifetime of belonging.
