ANYONE FOR SPANAKOPITA?

Join Sydney High School Teacher and local historian Vasilis Vasilas and local Dina Fakas as the history of Marrickville’s Greek community is woven into the cooking of the Greek delicacy, spanakopita.

The Greek migration and settlement story and Marrickville are synonymous to the success of Australian multiculturalism. One aspect of the Greek migrant generation’s integration into the broader Australian community is the impact of the Greek cuisine on the Australian diet and tastes. Foods like the spanakopita, or spinach pie. may have been an important link for migrants to their homeland, Greece, but it was also a transformative link of acceptance in their adopted homeland Australia.

Bookings will be available as part of the Heritage Festival program on March23.
