Readings with Music
For generations brief, humourous stories circulated in Greek about a Muslim preacher, a Hodja, called Nasreddin. They entertain while, often, suggesting a philosophical or ethical idea. Similar stories are found in other languages, from Albania, Bulgaria and Turkey to Iran and Central Asia. Their origin is lost in time. In our event some Hodja stories will be read in Turkish or Arabic, as well as Greek, with English translations on Powerpoint, and with background music on an instrument shared by many of these cultures.
Co-ordinators: Christine Kanellakis and Alfred Vincent.
